Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, humus-rich soil in shade or partial shade. This lenten rose features attractive marbled foliage that is ornamental even when the plant is not in bloom. Prepare the planting area with compost or leaf mold, space plants 18–24 inches apart, and water well. Mulch 2–3 inches deep. Avoid hot, dry, or sunny locations.

Care Tips

Cut off all old foliage in late winter just before the flower stems begin to emerge from the crown — this showcases the blooms and removes any leaf issues from the previous season. The spotted, marbled foliage re-emerges fresh and attractive after the bloom period. Very low maintenance once established. Self-seeds slowly over time. No regular fertilizing is needed in organically rich soil.
