Sparkle White Wand Flower

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained to moist soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Gaura (wand flower) produces airy, white, butterfly-like flowers on tall, wandering stems from early summer through fall — one of the longest bloom seasons of any perennial. It adapts to average conditions and is quite drought tolerant once established. Good drainage is important.

Cut plants back by about one-half in late summer to encourage fresh growth and continued blooming through fall. Very drought tolerant once established. No heavy fertilizing is needed. The airy, billowing habit and continuous white flowers create a light, ethereal quality in the garden. Gaura self-seeds freely — deadhead to prevent unwanted spread, or allow to naturalize in informal settings. Excellent companion plant for roses and ornamental grasses.
