Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 15–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently throughout the season; moderately drought tolerant once established. Cut back by half after the main flush of bloom to encourage fresh new growth and often a second flush of flowers. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Largely pest-free. The deeply colored, near-black foliage of this selection is an outstanding and unusual ornamental feature all season long, providing rich contrast in the shaded and partly shaded border even when not in bloom.
