Fairytrail Bride is a hydrangea that grows downward. Instead of standing upright, the stems arch out and cascade, which makes it the rare hydrangea that works in a hanging basket, spilling over a wall, or draping from a large container. This Proven Winners selection, Hydrangea 'USHYD0405', reaches about 4 feet in each direction, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 9 in part sun to part shade.
Pure white lacecap flowers open along the length of the trailing stems in early summer, so the bloom runs the full cascade rather than sitting at the tips. It reblooms through the season on new growth.
In the ground it forms a low mounding spill, and in a raised container or basket the stems hang down two to three feet.
Give it morning sun with afternoon shade and consistent moisture, and a container will need watering more often than a plant in the ground. The white flowers are unaffected by soil pH, so no adjusting needed. Avoid hard spring pruning, since it flowers on old wood as well as new.
