Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in acidic, moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Burning Love is a leucothoe with dramatic, arching branches and foliage that changes from glossy green in summer to brilliant orange-red to burgundy in fall and winter — providing a spectacular, evolving seasonal display. Amend soil with peat or acidic compost if needed. Mulch generously.

Care Tips

Prune out any dead or damaged stems in early spring. Cut a few of the oldest stems to the ground periodically to rejuvenate the plant. Feed with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. The gracefully arching habit and spectacular fall and winter foliage color make Burning Love one of the most beautiful leucothoe varieties. Replenish mulch annually. An outstanding shrub for shaded woodland gardens and moist, acid conditions.
