Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Space 40–60 feet apart- this is a large, fast-growing native tree. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought but performs best with consistent moisture. Little pruning is needed on young trees- remove any dead or crossing branches in late winter. Tulip tree grows quickly and can be messy- plant away from patios and walkways. Fertilize lightly in spring during establishment. The distinctive, tulip-shaped yellow-green flowers in late spring on mature trees and brilliant golden-yellow fall foliage are exceptional. Largely pest-free.
