Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with generous compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 8–12 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. A member of the Little Girl hybrid magnolias, Betty blooms later in spring which helps reduce frost damage to the buds. The large, deep red-purple flowers are produced reliably each year. A dependable, beautiful small flowering tree.
