Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native beebalm is more drought and lean-soil tolerant than the common red-flowering species.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought. Deadhead spent flower heads to extend the bloom period and prevent excessive self-seeding. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 2–3 years in spring. Monitor for powdery mildew- spotted beebalm has better mildew tolerance than many other beebalm species, especially in dry conditions. Largely otherwise pest-free. The unusual, creamy-white spotted flowers in summer are highly attractive to native bees and butterflies.
