Planting Tips

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil amended with compost. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Oriental poppies go dormant in summer- plan neighboring plants to fill the gap left when foliage dies back.

Care Tips

Water regularly during spring growth and bloom. After flowering, allow foliage to yellow and die back naturally- do not remove it prematurely. The plant rests through summer dormancy and new foliage re-emerges in fall. Divide clumps every 3–4 years in late summer during dormancy. Largely pest-free. The large, richly colored orange-red flowers with black centers are spectacular in late spring and make a bold statement in the garden.
