Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Provide a sturdy support structure or masonry surface- Boston ivy climbs by adhesive tendrils and pads. Space 5–10 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant and very adaptable to urban conditions, pollution, and poor soils. Boston ivy climbs self-sufficiently and will cover structures extensively- prune to control spread at any time. Cut back hard in early spring if needed to manage size. Largely pest-free. The glossy, three-lobed leaves turn brilliant scarlet and orange-red in fall- one of the most spectacular fall color displays of any climbing plant.
