Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in acidic, moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. Dorothy Wycoff is an andromeda variety notable for its red flower buds that persist through winter before opening to pink flowers in early spring — providing winter interest before many other shrubs come to life. Amend soil with peat or acidic compost if needed. Set the root ball at or just above grade and mulch deeply.

Care Tips

Minimal pruning is needed. Remove dead wood in early spring after flowering. Feed with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. The red winter buds are a distinctive ornamental feature that extends the interest of this plant well beyond the spring bloom period. Replenish mulch annually. A refined, four-season acid-loving shrub with exceptional winter and spring ornamental value.
