Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring in acidic, moist, well-drained soil with protection from afternoon heat. Amend with peat or acidic compost if soil pH is not naturally acidic. Set the root ball at or just above grade level and mulch generously. Water well at planting and maintain consistent moisture through the first season. Good drainage is just as important as moisture — never let roots sit in standing water.

Care Tips

Remove spent flower clusters after bloom to improve next year's show and direct energy into new growth. Apply an acid fertilizer once in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist and replenish mulch each year. Mountain laurel is slow growing but long lived — a well-sited plant will reward you for decades.
