Astra White Balloon Flower

Plant in average, well-drained soil enriched with compost. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Balloon flower is slow to emerge in spring- mark its location to avoid accidentally disturbing it before it appears.

Water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the bloom period. Deadheading also prevents excessive self-seeding over time. Cut back to the ground in late fall. Do not divide or transplant once established- balloon flower has a deep taproot and strongly resents disturbance. Largely pest-free. The pure white, balloon-like buds that open to star-shaped flowers are charming and distinctive. Compact Astra series plants stay tidy without staking.
