Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 15–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.

Care Tips

Water consistently throughout the season. Jacob's ladder prefers cool conditions and may go semi-dormant in summer heat- cut back tired foliage and it will re-flush in cooler fall weather. The ladder-like, pinnate leaves are attractive throughout the season. Divide every 3–4 years in early spring. Largely pest-free. An excellent perennial for shaded and partially shaded borders in cool, moist conditions. The clusters of blue-violet flowers in spring are reliably produced each year.
