Reminiscent® Ginger rose opens in a blend of orange, yellow, cream and gold, each flower deeply cupped and packed with petals in the shape of an old garden rose. This Proven Winners® selection, Rosa 'CHEWARIZONA', grows 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide in full sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 9, and takes a full season in the ground before it settles into steady bloom.
The fragrance is strong and sweet with a warm spice note behind it. Flowering starts in early summer and repeats into fall in flushes rather than one display, with new buds coming on as the older flowers finish.
The color is not uniform. A single flower carries orange, yellow, cream and gold at once, and the blend shifts as the bloom ages, so a plant in full flower shows several shades at the same time. The petal count is high enough that cut stems hold their form in a vase for several days.
The habit is wider than it is tall, which suits the front of a border, a low informal hedge or a large container better than a narrow bed. Disease resistance is good and the foliage holds through humid summers without a spray program, though black spot can still appear on plants sited in crowded or shaded spots. This is an own-root rose, so shoots that come up from the base are the named variety rather than an understock.
