Midnight Ruby Rhododendron

Plant in spring in acidic, moist, well-drained soil with afternoon shade protection and shelter from desiccating winter winds. Midnight Ruby produces deep, rich crimson-red flowers that are among the most vividly colored in the rhododendron palette. Amend soil with peat or acidic compost if needed. Set root ball at or just above grade, mulch deeply, and water well.

Remove spent flower clusters after bloom. Feed with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. Replenish mulch annually. Protect from harsh winter winds, especially in the first few years.
