Planting Tips

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Provide a very sturdy trellis, fence, or arbor- this is a vigorous climber. Space 8–10 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the canes.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly throughout the season. Train new canes horizontally on the support structure to maximize flowering. Prune in early spring to remove dead or damaged canes and lightly shape. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage repeat flowering. Fertilize with a rose fertilizer in spring and midsummer. Monitor for black spot and powdery mildew. The large, deeply fragrant, velvety dark red flowers are among the most richly scented of any climbing rose.
