Pairs well with

A powerful scent of sweet citrus and rose comes off apricot-orange flowers, which is an unusual color and an unusual strength for a disease-resistant shrub. Rosa 'BAInce', sold as Easy Elegance® Sweet Fragrance, PP19,969, grows 2 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide in full sun, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 9.

Fragrance in a landscape rose usually comes at the cost of health. This one carries both, and the name says which trait came first.

Most of the Easy Elegance roses come from the renowned breeder Ping Lim, aimed at putting hybrid tea flower quality on a plant that survives a northern winter without a spray program. They grow on their own roots rather than grafted, so a plant killed back in a hard winter comes back as itself. Pruning is a cutback in early spring and nothing more.

The compact size suits a spot near a path or a door where the scent gets noticed.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the canes.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the season. Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering. Prune in early spring to remove dead or weak canes. Fertilize with a rose fertilizer in spring and after each bloom flush. Good disease resistance. Monitor for black spot and aphids. As the name suggests, this rose is known for exceptional fragrance- the classic, strong, old-rose scent is produced consistently on well-formed, attractive blooms throughout the season.
