Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 5–6 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This tough native rose adapts to a very wide range of soil conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established this native rose is quite drought tolerant and very adaptable. Prune out the oldest canes at the base in early spring to encourage vigorous new growth. Remove dead wood as needed. Fertilize lightly in spring. Largely disease-resistant compared to hybrid roses. The single, medium-pink flowers in early summer are followed by large, persistent red hips in fall that are among the most ornamental of any native rose and excellent for birds.
