Purple Pavement Rose

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained soil, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Purple Pavement is a rugosa rose hybrid with deep, rich purple-red, semi-double, fragrant flowers and the characteristic tough, disease-resistant nature of all rugosas. It adapts to sandy, poor, and coastal conditions. Minimal soil preparation is needed. Water well at planting and reduce as the plant establishes.

Prune lightly in early spring to remove dead wood and shape. Rugosa roses are essentially self-sufficient once established — outstanding disease resistance and minimal care requirements. The fragrant flowers attract pollinators and are followed by large, ornamental, edible hips in fall. No heavy fertilizing is needed. One of the toughest and most adaptable roses for difficult sites including coastal and sandy locations.
