Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Highly adaptable to clay and poor soils.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous bloom from midsummer through fall, or leave seed heads for birds. Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Virtually pest- and disease-free. The warm, golden-orange flowers with darker centers glow in late summer and early fall- an outstanding native prairie perennial with excellent fall color in the landscape.
