Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained to dry soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. May Night is an award-winning salvia with deep indigo-violet flower spikes that bloom in late spring. It is highly drought tolerant once established and thrives in lean to average conditions — avoid overly rich or wet soils. No special soil preparation is needed. Water moderately after planting.

Care Tips

Cut plants back by about one-half after the first bloom flush to encourage a second and sometimes third round of flowers later in the season. Without cutting back, the main display diminishes significantly. Very drought tolerant once established. No heavy fertilizing is needed. The deep indigo flowers are a magnet for bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. One of the most reliable and widely grown perennial salvias available.
