Autumn Joy Stonecrop

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Autumn Joy is one of the most enduringly popular perennials — a classic sedum with thick, succulent foliage and large, flat-topped flower heads that progress from pink to deep rose to russet-bronze through fall. It requires good drainage and adapts to average to lean soils. No soil amendment is needed.

Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. The dried flower heads persist through winter and provide attractive structure in the garden — many gardeners leave them standing for this reason. Divide every three to four years in spring. No fertilizing is needed in average soils. Autumn Joy is exceptional for late-season pollinators and remains one of the most reliable, easy, and beautiful fall perennials after decades of garden use.
