Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Wild senna has a taproot- choose a permanent location.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant and adaptable to lean, dry conditions. Wild senna is one of the primary host plants for sulphur butterfly caterpillars. The bright yellow flowers in summer are excellent for pollinators. Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 4–5 years in spring if desired, though established plants are best left undisturbed. No fertilization needed in lean soil. Largely pest-free and deer resistant.
