Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist to wet, average soil. Highly adaptable to wet, clay, and poor soils. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water consistently after planting; steeplebush thrives in moist to wet conditions and is an excellent native shrub for rain gardens and wet areas. Prune out the oldest canes at the base in late winter to encourage vigorous new growth and tidy the plant. Fertilize lightly in spring if desired. The tall, steeple-shaped spikes of deep rose-pink flowers in summer are showy and excellent for pollinators. Largely pest-free. A tough, reliable native for challenging wet sites.
