Pairs well with

Cherry red flowers with 35 petals in full hybrid tea form, carrying a strong scent of ripe pear and clove. Hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 9, the Sweet Spirit™ rose (Rosa 'Meithatie') grows 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide in full sun.

Strong fragrance in a red rose usually comes at the cost of health. This one carries both, and it has four awards to show for it: American Garden Rose Selections, the American Rose Society, Biltmore, and A.R.T.S.

It grows well in hot humid climates where most fragrant roses struggle, and the flowers cut well.

The habit is rounded and bushy, suiting a foundation bed, a low hedge, or the middle of a border.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the canes.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the season. Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering. Prune in early spring to remove dead or weak canes. Fertilize with a rose fertilizer in spring and midsummer. Good disease resistance. Monitor for black spot and aphids. Sweet Spirit produces beautifully fragrant, elegantly formed flowers in soft, sweet tones- the name captures the gentle, fragrant, and gracious character of this selection. A reliable, disease-resistant, and delightfully scented garden rose.
