Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought and adapts to a range of soils. Allow to self-seed freely- tall thimbleweed naturalizes beautifully in meadow and woodland edge settings. Cut back spent stems in late fall or leave for winter wildlife interest. Divide every 3–4 years in spring if desired. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. The large, single white flowers in summer are followed by distinctive, fluffy, thimble-shaped seed heads that provide fall and winter ornamental interest. A beautiful, easy, and valuable native wildflower.
