Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in acidic, well-drained soil, spacing 2–3 feet apart. Burgundy lowbush blueberry is a compact, native groundcover that provides multi-season interest: white spring flowers, edible blue berries in summer, and brilliant red-burgundy fall foliage. Acidic soil is essential — test soil pH and amend with sulfur if needed. Mulch with pine bark or wood chips to maintain acidity.

Care Tips

Prune by cutting back stems to about 6 inches in early spring every few years to rejuvenate the plant and improve berry production. Fertilize with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist during fruiting. The berries are edible and excellent for eating fresh or cooking. The brilliant fall foliage is outstanding. Birds love the berries. Plant in groups for best cross-pollination and berry production.
