Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.0–5.0). Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep with wood chips or pine bark, keeping mulch away from the crown. Plant two or more varieties for best fruit production.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the growing season- blueberries have shallow roots that need steady moisture. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Prune out the oldest, least productive canes at the base in late winter each year to encourage vigorous new growth. Fertilize in early spring and again in late spring with an acid-formulated fertilizer- never use lime. Northland is a half-high type with outstanding cold hardiness. Net plants when berries ripen to prevent bird damage.
