Planting Tips

Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought. Prune by removing one-third of the oldest canes at the base immediately after the main spring flowering flush. Weigela blooms primarily on old wood, so avoid heavy pruning in fall or late winter. Fertilize lightly in early spring. Largely pest-free. The deep, rich maroon-red foliage holds its color remarkably well through the season and provides excellent contrast in mixed borders. The tubular, deep pink flowers in spring are highly attractive to hummingbirds.
