Planting Tips

Plant in lean, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0). Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Excellent drainage is essential.

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Shear lightly after flowering to maintain a compact, tidy form. Do not cut into old, leafless wood. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. Winter Chocolate is valued particularly for its outstanding winter foliage color- the foliage transitions to rich, warm chocolate-brown tones in cold weather, creating a distinctive and unusual winter display.
